Cavell Gardens celebrated its 15th Anniversary this year with a wonderful lunch buffet and entertainment. A special plaque was presented to the founders John & Shirley Svoboda for their vision, dedication and love in providing a home for seniors who have given so much to their communities.

Cavell has always been a family operation. Kevin, Marie and I are proud and committed in following the legacy our parents have left us and are focus will always remain on providing indendent seniors will an affordable, safe place they can call home.

We would like to thank the community of Mt Pleasant for their continued support and look forward to serving you all for another 15 years.

2016 Cavell Gardens Year to date:

Is it just the bustle of our vibrant community that makes time appear to fly by? I don't know about you, but the first half of 2016 has gone by in a blur and it is only now, midway, that I can stand back and take stock of our year so far [and find time to update our blog!]

Not so good: New Years day 2016 bought with it a grotty flu virus that knocked the wind out of a number of our staff and resident's sails, leaving energy levels at a low and occupancy down, as some of our frailer residents moved on to a higher level of care. Those of us unaffected or in recovery rallied forces and kept the troops motivated and fighting the good fight. It is times like these when one realizes just how much of a family unit our little community is, everyone looking out for everyone else and ensuring that no one gets forgotten.

Better: With the poor start to the year things could only get better; in March we were awarded our Stars of Vancouver Readers Choice Award for Best Seniors Community[East side]. It is always such a treat to get recognition for one's efforts and it had a wonderful effect on both resident and staff morale and there was no looking back.

Best: Mid way through the year we find ourselves back in the swing. Our wonderful community is full yet again and with an influx of fun-loving  and active seniors it has added a fresh dynamic to our residence. As  a result not a day goes by without the communal spaces ringing with laughter and chatter. Every sunny day on offer sees a group of people playing Bocci or meeting up for group walks or outings. Our sunny benches on Sophia Street provide a hive of comings and goings as residents socialize with friends or any members of our multi-faceted Mt. Pleasant Community, who are fortunate enough to be passing by.

As summer takes hold and residents seek the shady warmth of our courtyard gardens, they have become used to the familiar sounds of our returning Mexican guests, Humming Birds. There is no better way to appreciate them than observing their feeding and antics whilst supping on your own choice of 'nectar' at a Friday afternoon Happy hour. Just ask any one of the regulars who support our end of week social!
Happy Summer Everyone!!

Stars of Vancouver Finalist 2016

Residents and Staff were delighted to once again be awarded a Stars of Vancouver Finalist status as First Choice Seniors Community [East Side]
Warmest thanks go out to everyone who took the time to vote for us. We will endeavour to continue making you proud and to providing the best service, ambience and environment we possibly can to our residents, their relatives, our supportive community services and our potential / future residents.

Thanks again from US ALL!

Springtime Shenanigans at Cavell Gardens

It's hard to think of the past couple of months as being 'springtime', seeing as the weather has been the best that a West Coast summer could offer. At Cavell Gardens we have made hay whilst the sun has been shining to take advantage of a number of local outings and to utilise our outdoor space.

Mexican Fiesta - GM Michelle [moustachioed] and Food Services Manager Carlos on Margarita duty!

Margaritaville - a.k.a: our Courtyard Garden
Siesta time!

The fabulous thing about our location is the numerous eatery's along Main street. Our residents have been taking advantage of the opportunity a mid morning walk incorporated with a lunch or snack along the way. Bellagio's Gelato on Main street  is the perfect location and popular choice for these outings as is The Last Crumb Coffee Shop .
This month July we will be exercising both our legs and mandibles on some local walking/lunch outings to The Fish Cafe in Kerridale, The Dharma Kitchen on West Broadway and The Dockside Restaurant on Granville Island. Best of all we have our Ambleside Salmon Picnic planned for July 21st. I will be sure to update you on that at a later date! Enjoy the sunshine and stay hydrated!

Warning: Living at Cavell Gardens will result in the onset of Laughter Lines.

Happy Canada Day Everyone!

Happy Canada Day 2015 Everyone!

Weather has been SO warm recently that we unanimously agreed that our traditional July 1st parade down Main Street be cancelled this year. Instead we opted to take advantage of the morning cool of our Courtyard Garden to gather together for a morning coffee Quiz [Canadian trivia of course!] followed by a sherry toast to this wonderful country we call home and to sing a rather splendid rendition to 'O Canada' accompanied by our very own in-house accordion player, Finn.
